Doctor of Public Health (Dr.PH.)

Purpose

The purpose of the DrPH program is to prepare students, early- to mid-career domestic and international public health professionals to assume leadership roles in public health policy and practice positions as well as in health services delivery settings.

Program Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to:

  • Design a research project to address a public health issue that adds knowledge to the literature of the public health discipline.
  • Communicate public health science to diverse stakeholders at all levels of health literacy, for purposes of influencing behavior and policies.
  • Assess an audience's knowledge and learning needs for the development of strategies that promote inclusion and equity within public health programs, policies, and systems.
  • Apply the Christian worldview to public health practice in diverse settings and populations .

Program Specific Admission Requirements

In addition to the general admission requirements for the university, admission to candidacy in the Doctor of Public Health program requires:

  1. Earned MPH, or MSPH or related from a CEPH accredited* or regionally accredited program, or related field with a 3.0 GPA for admission.
  2. A prior Masters degree, in any field, from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education with a 3.0 and the required prerequisite course work which includes core classes in the MPH program (18 credit hours or Liberty Universities Graduate Certificate in Public Health), successfully completed with a grade of B- or higher or
  3. *All non-CEPH accredited MPH or MSPH or equivalent students must take a preparation course, PCHR 700 within their first 9 credits or semester.
  4. Official college transcripts must be mailed directly from your college to Liberty University in an official, sealed envelope.

  5. A formal application package including a current curriculum vita (CV)/resume (required), a public health essay of 1000-1500 words describing your desire to pursue the DrPH and its alignment to your professional goals (required), and public health portfolio to include examples of previous academic or professional public health experience or deliverables.
  6. $50 application fee
  7. Self-Certification Form (for students in the final term of their master's degree).
  8. Current Liberty graduate students seeking preliminary acceptance into a graduate program must complete a Graduation Application through the provided link.
  9. Additional Admission Requirements for International Students
  10. Technology Questionnaire: Computer access and literacy for word processing, Internet, and e-mail are required for all graduate students. This form is available online.
  11. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (if applicable)
  12. The Doctoral of Public Health program uses a gate system to monitor student progress during preparation for a career in public health. All students are required to complete all required gates in addition to their coursework in order to graduate from the DrPH program.
