Master of Arts in Biblical Interpretation (M.A.)
Purpose
The Master of Arts in Biblical Interpretation program is structured to cultivate advanced expertise in biblical studies and enhance students' comprehensive understanding of scriptural texts. This program provides an integrated approach where multiple disciplines are utilized while connecting learning in real-life applications with ministry settings and leaders.
Program Learning Outcomes
The student will be able to:
- Analyze biblical passages with sophisticated research techniques and a grasp of ancient biblical languages.
- Develop an evangelical theology based on the integrated use of Scripture with other appropriate sources while exhibiting knowledge of the literature appropriate to the field.
- Utilize grammatical and syntactical expertise in the accurate interpretation of scriptural writings.
Program Specific Admission Requirements
In addition to the general admission procedures, applicants to the Master of Arts in Biblical Interpretation program must meet the following requirements:
- Earned baccalaureate degree or its equivalent (in any field) from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (e.g., SACSCOC, TRACS, ABHE, etc.).
- Contact information for one Pastoral Recommendation
- Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale)
- School of Divinity Questionnaire
- TOEFL Scores for students who speak English as a second language (score of 600 paper-based test; 250 computer-based test, 80 internet-based test).
Degree Transfer
Students may transfer up to 24 hours of graduate-level credit from an accredited institution. In order to transfer credit, students must have earned the minimum grade of C-, and courses must have been completed within 10 years of the start date of the student’s program at Liberty University. Credits from a prior degree on the same academic level earned through Liberty University are considered transfer credits.
