Master of Arts in Bible & Theology (M.A.)
Purpose
The Master of Bible and Theology degree equips students through a biblical framework to develop skills needed for understanding and communicating the theological narrative of the Bible. This program provides an integrated approach, utilizing multiple disciplines to prepare students for practical ministry applications. Graduates of the program will have a strong understanding of the Bible (its story, its purpose, and its redemptive goal) and will be able to articulate the primary theological concepts of Scripture.
Program Learning Outcomes
The student will be able to:
- Develop an evangelical theology based on the integrated use of Scripture with other appropriate sources while exhibiting knowledge of the literature appropriate to the fields of biblical and theological studies.
- Interpret sections of the Bible using proper methods built upon evangelical theological foundations.
- Examine major critical issues relating to specific passages and theological themes found in the Old and New Testaments from a conservative evangelical perspective.
Program Specific Admission Requirements
In addition to the general admission procedures, applicants to the Master of Arts in Bible and Theology (M.A.) program must meet the following requirements:
- Earned baccalaureate degree or its equivalent (in any field) from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (e.g., SACSCOC, TRACS, ABHE, etc.). Applicants who hold a prior degree from an unaccredited institution may be considered for admission on Academic Caution.
- Contact information for one Pastoral Recommendation.
- Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale)
- Questionnaire/Personal Statement
Transfer Credit
Transfer hours may not exceed 50% credit hours of the program. Transfer credits are considered on a case-by-case basis and must have been completed as M.A. course work within the previous ten (10) years from a regionally accredited program to be accepted. Courses must have a grade of B- or higher to be eligible for consideration for transfer credit. Correspondence studies or life experiences will not be accepted for transfer credit. Credits from a prior degree earned through Liberty University are considered transfer credits.
