Master of Divinity in Community Chaplaincy (M.Div.)

Purpose

The Master of Divinity in Community Chaplaincy program aims to prepare and empower students to serve as committed ambassadors for Christ in both secular and sacred settings. This program provides an integrated approach where multiple disciplines are utilized while connecting learning in real-life applications with ministry settings and leaders. This program focuses specifically on training students for community chaplaincy contexts. 

Program Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to:

  • Cultivate a global perspective on the Great Commission, emphasizing the proclamation and practical application of the gospel in making disciples.
  • Explore major critical issues in the Old and New Testaments from a conservative evangelical standpoint exhibiting knowledge of the literature appropriate to the discipline of biblical studies.
  • Investigate theological stances on key doctrinal questions and issues within Christian thought.
  • Synthesize the principles of chaplain care in the community context.

 

Program Specific Admission Requirements

In addition to the general admission procedures, applicants to the Master of Divinity in Community Chaplaincy program must meet the following requirements:

  1. Earned baccalaureate degree or its equivalent (in any field) from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (e.g., SACSCOC, TRACS, ABHE, etc.).
  2. Contact information for one Pastoral Recommendation.
  3. Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale).
  4. School of Divinity Questionnaire/Personal Statement
  5. TOEFL Scores for students who speak English as a second language (score of 600 paper-based test; 250 computer-based test, 80 internet-based test).

Degree Transfer

M.A., M.R.E., OR M.Div. into the M.Div. in Community Chaplaincy Program

Students who pursue a Master of Divinity in Community Chaplaincy (M.Div.) degree after having earned a Master of Arts in Biblical Exposition (M.A.), Master of Arts in Christian Apologetics (M.A.), Master of Arts in Christian Ministry (M.A.), Master of Arts in Global Studies (M.A.), Master of Arts in Theological Studies (M.A.) or Master of Religious Education (M.R.E.), any Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree may use all applicable credits from the M.A., M.A.R., or M.R.E. toward the M.Div. as allowed by the student’s specific M.Div. in Community Chaplaincy Degree Completion Plan (DCP) so long as the credits do not exceed two-thirds of the M.Div. program.

Degree Candidacy

Degree Candidacy is granted when the student completes all prerequisites and is in good academic standing.
