Master of Arts in Theology and Apologetics (M.A.)
Purpose
The Master of Arts in Theology and Apologetics program will equip students to defend the essential truths of the Christian faith with clarity and conviction while also training them to diagnose and evaluate cultural movements and ideological challenges facing the church today. Students will learn to articulate winsome arguments, engage the culture, and ground their approach in a theologically robust and biblically centered worldview. Students will focus on engaging both the academy and the broader culture with intellectual rigor and pastoral sensitivity.
Program Learning Outcomes
The student will be able to:
- Defend the essential doctrines of the Christian faith using knowledge of the literature appropriate to the disciplines of theology and apologetics.
- Investigate cultural and ideological challenges facing the church.
- Apply the authority of Scripture in theological formulation and contextualization.
- Demonstrate the coherence of the Christian worldview.
Program Specific Admission Requirements
In addition to the general admission procedures, applicants to the Master of Arts in Theology and Apologetics (M.A.) program must meet the following requirements:
- Earned baccalaureate degree or its equivalent (in any field) from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (e.g., SACSCOC, TRACS, ABHE, etc.).
- Contact information for one Pastoral Recommendation.
- Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale)
- School of Divinity Questionnaire
- TOEFL Scores for students who speak English as a second language (score of 600 paper-based test; 250 computer-based test, 80 internet-based test).
Students who do not meet the minimum GPA requirement may be admitted on Academic Caution status.
Transfer Credit
Students may transfer up to 50% credit hours from an accredited institution subject to department approval. In order to transfer credit, students must have earned the minimum grade of B-, and courses must have been completed within 10 years of the start date of the program. Credits from a prior degree on the same academic level earned through Liberty University are considered transfer credits.
Non-transferable course are as followed: BIBL 500, BIBL 505, RTCH 680, THES 689, and THES 690.
